Ocean Aire Hemp Farm company logo.

Project: Ocean Air Hemp Farm

The Ocean Air Hemp Farm campaign began in 2020 when my family came to request my assistance with developing their website. For most of the time between 2020 and 2024, I was a website design consultant while I was in college. The most prolific project I worked on for their business was the company logo.

Software/Tools Used:

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • Procreate

  • Weebly

  • Squarespace

Process

To fertilize the fields of my family’s property, they would till fish cull into the soil. Because of this, fish was used as the primary design element, and these fish were arranged in the shape of a hemp leaf to denote the product sold. Initially, I sketched this design on a shopkeeper’s chalkboard for display at the local farmers’ market. Eventually, I painted the design as part of a rudimentary poster that set the basis for the colors. I revamped the logo later using Procreate and Adobe Illustrator for a digitized version until I finally updated in 2023 with more appealing design features.

The website was a background project for the most part. I used my understanding of website visibility to implement best Search Engine Optimization practices. I also assisted with website navigation and design while the company was using Weebly. In 2023, I took the initiative to redesign the website in Squarespace for better business integration. I used Figma to prototype wireframes to illustrate the experience for my clients. I also worked with agents at Hibu to help boost local website ads.

Takeaways

Along with the experience brought along with further freelance clients, I got to learn more about Figma and how its use can be implemented in the design process. I was also grateful to have more logo experience and a chance to evolve its design. Ultimately, web design is one of my weaker areas, but it offers itself as a challenge to overcome.
