Project: PowerPoint Presentations

During my last days working for Master Magnetics Inc, I worked with the rest of the marketing team to create business communication slide decks for the VP of marketing. These decks would be used to present company information and marketing plans to prospective business partners.

Software/Tools Used:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • Adobe Photoshop

Process

During the time of this project, the company was in the planning stages of a rebrand campaign. This meant that the slide decks we created had to be made as templates not only to be used for multiple meetings, but also to replace soon-to-be outdated logos and graphics. The bulk of the work had to be done in Microsoft PowerPoint as well to ensure that the sales team could easily make corrections and alternatives based on the meeting.

The VP of marketing handed us several examples of works from other companies to model from. In each version I presented, I worked with a blend of ideas inspired from the various source material to provide the VP with a variety of options to choose from and flesh out from there. The first two versions were more of a hodgepodge to gauge interest, while the third was a more direct and cohesive design which utilized our blue and yellow colors, fluid shapes (designed in Adobe Illustrator), and three dimensionality using drop shadow effects and layering. Some photos were modified in Adobe Photoshop using the camera raw filter to achieve a more hardware friendly theme.

Takeaways

While designing presentation decks in Microsoft PowerPoint shortcuts the real power that can be harnessed with software like Adobe InDesign, it was still useful to get back up to speed with this popular program. The limitations presented with PowerPoint offer a challenge that encourages creativity.
