Project: Club Quadball Brochure
The final project for my digital media class was designed to familiarize myself with Adobe InDesign and to give myself hands-on designer-client relationship experience. In this project, I was tasked with seeking out a client and fulfilling their needs with a design that would promote their business or organization. Since I was playing Quidditch at the time (now known as Quadball), I was inspired to design a recruitment brochure for the team to complete this project.
Software/Tools Used:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Photoshop
Process
Since I was a member of the team and knew the staff members well, I was able to quickly establish grounds for the project. This began with early concept sketches that were discussed, modified, and approved before I began working. I wanted to stick closely to the design themes used by the university. This involved a lot of blocks, red & white, and a somewhat modern futurist font face.
With the preliminary designs decided upon, I worked with the team’s social media officer to collect a series of pictures that would best serve the brochure’s design. This included their logo graphic, pictures of individuals (to showcase the different positions), and group pictures to fully represent the team.
The old design was used from 2018-23, and in late 2023, I reached out to the team and offered an updated design to better reflect my skills and give the team something more professional looking. The design was well-received and remains a part of their recruitment material.
Takeaways
I have Quadball to thank for bringing me out of a dark time in my life, and I couldn’t be more delighted to have helped them grow the team. During the years I was a part of the team, I felt a greater sense of purpose in having made something for them. The brochure project also gave me invaluable pre-career experience working with a client instead of a professor.
