EYFP Branding

Empowering Youth and Families Program (EYFP) is an initiative within NC 4-H designed to reinforce family values and strengthen communities to target the underlying issues that face many North Carolinians. In this project, a coworker and I laid the foundations for the program identity by designing the EYFP and PFPC (Powerful Families Powerful Communities) logos.

Software Used:

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • Adobe Express

  • Adobe InDesign

Process

At the inception of the branding projects, I supervised an intern who was given the task originally. I helped him get more familiar with Adobe Illustrator and together we explored the uses of Adobe Express. After several iterations and communication, our efforts resulted in a logo for our Program and one for our primary curriculum. The EYFP logo maintained a simplistic, yet bold and professional style utilizing our colors to establish a strong and secure brand identity. The PFPC logo was designed to appeal more to the families and individuals who would be impacted, so it took on a softer and more inviting design. It uses the full scope of the EYFP color palette to communicate diversity, while the image contained within the words offers a sense of belonging and wholesomeness.

The EYFP Branding Guidelines was a side project assigned to me so that NC 4-H could better establish the brand in terms of style, text, use, and color. The guidelines were made available to employees to use when designing future documents, presentations, web articles, etc. It also provided the graphics team with a solid reference point to maintain branding consistency. The guidelines were modeled closely to the official 4-H style guidelines to hold parity between National 4-H and NC 4-H.

Takeaways

For me, this was an exciting project because it gave me experience in meta-design. Everything I standardized would be set for future designers working with the program, which required a great deal of planning and forethought. Additionally, I explored areas of accessibility to ensure that our company adheres to universal standards so that we may reach and impact the maximum audience.

I was also very happy to have imparted my experience with Adobe Illustrator to my coworker. Helping others learn something in turn helps me better understand the software I use.
